When I take groups to Kenya, I often get this question: What are we going to do while we’re there?
Each trip looks a little different—on purpose. Partnerships are always about people, not projects. Everyone is bringing their own skills, background, and passions that uniquely bless the children and staff at Oasis.
This summer, Rev. Melissa Hatfield and her team from First Baptist Church prepared activity stations. I asked her to share what students learned at each station:
Taste Testing New Snacks: “God has made a world full of variety, surprise, and goodness. Trying something new reminds us to stay curious and open to the gifts God puts in front of us.”
Puzzles: “Sometimes we only see one small piece of what is happening in our lives, but God sees the whole picture.”
Nail Polish and Stickers: “God delights in beauty, creativity, color, and joy. Sometimes something doesn’t need to accomplish anything important. It can simply make us smile, and joy itself is one of God’s good gifts.”
Making Prayer Boxes: “God wants to hear what is on our hearts, whether it is something big or small, joyful or difficult.”
I love the creativity and joy Melissa and her team bring year after year during their summer trips! Over the years, they have truly become like family. Students look forward to seeing them, and our staff are refreshed by their friendship.
Spiritual partners like First Baptist Church play a significant role in helping children encounter the enduring love of God.
We’re so thankful for the steady support from partners like you and all of our trip participants who come visit us! What you do truly has an eternal impact on these children and our staff.
Is your church interested in coming to Kenya? We’d love to host you!
