“The best thing” that’s happened this year

Children come to Oasis for Orphans from a variety of backgrounds and family situations. Some are orphaned, while others might have biological parents who can’t provide consistent care and support at home.

That’s the case for Mercy, Bonephas, and David—three siblings who live at Oasis who had only seen their biological mother once in seven years.

Joyce, one of our social workers, has faithfully been working toward reunification for this family and encouraging their mother that her presence in their lives is invaluable.

When safe and possible, Oasis social workers accompany children on visits to their biological family, so families can strengthen their bond, start the process of healing past wounds, and work toward stability.

Joyce finally got permission to take Mercy, Bonephas, and David on a trip this past year. “The kids were so excited and very eager to meet their Mum whom they had not seen for so long,” she said.

Upon seeing their family for the first time in years, each of the siblings’ faces beamed with joy. “Mercy was so happy, and she could not stop smiling the whole time,” Joyce recalled.

Although the trip was short, Mercy said the visit was the best thing that has happened in her life this year.

“Their mother was so thankful to Oasis for the support they have provided to the three children. I am also very thankful to God, Oasis for the funds, and everyone who played a part in making this a success story. Thank you!” said Joyce.

At Oasis, we make every effort to keep children in touch with their biological families. We understand the importance of children having a healthy emotional connection with their loved ones while providing them with a safe environment to learn and grow.

Your support makes trips like this possible to strengthen biological families and change the trajectory of generations to come. Thank you for your ongoing support that makes sure children grow up knowing they are safe, loved, and capable of bright futures!
