When he was seven years old, Lewis arrived at Oasis for Orphans severely underweight and in need of medical care for malnutrition.
In addition to his physical needs, he was struggling emotionally. His mother had died, and his father refused to take him to doctor’s appointments and was unable to care for Lewis due to his own mental illness. Lewis didn’t feel safe or protected at home.
“Oasis saved my life,” said Lewis.
With consistent medical care and attention, he has transformed at Oasis—physically and emotionally. A few weeks ago, he held up a pair of the tiny school shorts he had worn during his first few months at our on-site shelter.
He was shocked that he had once been so small.
Although he can no longer wear them, Lewis plans to keep the shorts as a reminder of his transformation.
Today, Lewis is a thriving, happy, and healthy seventh grader. He is among the best basketball players who represented The Shelter at last year’s nationals.
His growth shows just how much consistent medical care and attention matters.
In rural Kenya, many children have a similar story to Lewis. Their basic needs like food, shelter, and medical care aren’t met, which limits their chances of breaking out of the cycle of poverty—and even survival.
But thanks to your generosity, children have a chance for a different future.
Your ongoing support is changing—and saving—lives!
On mission together,

Executive Director of Oasis for Orphans
