Children spend the majority of their formative years in school.
Their teachers, curriculum, and peers shape who they’re becoming. They don’t just deserve access to education; they also deserve excellent teachers who are committed to their growth.
At Oasis, many students arrive significantly behind their grade level. Some of them can’t read or even write their name. Their teachers go above and beyond to make learning a positive experience: they come in early and stay late, volunteer on holidays, tutor students individually, offer extracurriculars to bolster weak areas, adjust curriculum to match students’ needs, and check in on students with emotional needs.
Recently, we gathered for our annual Oasis teacher training for seven days of team building, learning, and fun. Here’s what a few teachers shared:
This training was an invaluable time to sharpen professional skills so Oasis students have the best possible education.
It was also a special opportunity to thank these dedicated teachers and celebrate their hard work.
“Listening to all the stories of how each of them came to be part of this incredible journey was a reminder that Oasis has not only impacted children across Kenya but also staff who came in so young and are now parents with children being educated by the same schools they started,” says Education Consultant Mary Patch. “Staff who found their purpose and are now doing what God called them to do.”
