A Medical Update on our 15-year old student

Medical Update

One year ago, an Oasis student was rushed to the hospital with a severe brain infection. He underwent a nine-hour surgery and remained in a medically induced coma for days.

After spending 11 weeks in the ICU, he received therapy for several months in a children’s hospital, allowing his skull and brain to continue healing. Many of you prayed for his recovery and were instrumental in providing the funds for his medical care.

I’m excited to share that this precious student is now back at Oasis and making incredible strides in his recovery! Watch him in action!

Last September, he was playing basketball with his friends and thriving in school and this year, he’s relearning everything. From leg strengthening exercises to speech therapy and extra tutoring, he’s slowly making progress every day.

His recovery has been a team effort. One Oasis student has helped him with reading and comprehension on a daily basis. The basketball team has practiced physical exercises with him. And Pastor Fred has played speech therapy games.

According to his caregiver, he can currently run, carry 10 litres with his right hand, and hold up to 20 litres with his left. But there is still a long way to go.

“My prayer request is we continue praying for him to recover in his speech completely,” says Oasis staff member Joseph. “At this point, he can have a conversation but sometimes points or just says a word.”

Would you join us in praying for a full recovery for this student? Your prayers and gifts have sustained this student and our entire staff during a difficult season. We are forever thankful for your faithful support!

P.S. “Without God’s provision of all the staff and ministry partners of Oasis he would not be alive right now,” says Matt. “For that, I am incredibly grateful.”

Please know that every dollar, every prayer, and every connection you offered throughout this past year has been critical to this student’s recovery.

If you’re interested in continuing to support his recovery journey, please reply to this email. Every contribution goes a long way—and we are so thankful!
