Our Big Dream Problem

Our-Big-Dream-Problem

Our Oasis team has a problem.

We’re big dreamers, wide-eyed believers. We’ve got big hearts and bigger goals.

And, that’s why we keep saying yes to kids like Phillip*.

Phillip was there three years ago when Oasis first began building The Shelter. He watched as a rock-filled hilltop turned into a place of hope and joy for children in his community.

A bright and inquisitive boy, Phillip began asking questions. He learned Oasis had come to help his community, and he knew that The Shelter would make a difference in children’s lives. He hoped Oasis could help him too. His family was struggling, and soon they wouldn’t be able to afford to send him to school anymore.

Even then, Phillip was older than the target age for children being welcomed to The Shelter. And unlike most of them, he had family members who were able to take care of him, even if they had barely enough to survive.

But, being the dreamers that we are, we began to come up with a way to impact more than just the kids who lived at The Shelter or one of our other children’s homes. We began to dream of a program that turned children’s homes into care centers that impact entire communities, a program that keeps kids in loving homes and families. This is what Oasis’s Guardian Care Program is all about.

Earlier last year, we began piloting our Guardian Care Program, which is going to help existing care centers like The Shelter impact the lives of hundreds of children in their surrounding communities. And this year, when Phillip began high school and his family wasn’t able to cover his school fees, Phillip was accepted into Oasis’s Guardian Care Program. His school fees are covered, an he still lives at home with his family.

This is promoting education in Kenya. This is the stuff of dreams. This is Guardian Care.

The best part about our big dream problem…there are a lot of us dreamers! It’s our team in Kenya. It’s sponsors. It’s runners, bikers, and swimmers. Dreamers are on our trips, sharing our social media posts. Even everyone who reads this blog has a dream about impacted communities in Kenya. Won’t you join in our big dream?
