This family’s story wasn’t like the others. When we visited their home, there were photo albums full of happy memories, an unusual sight in rural Kenya since having even one family photo is a luxury.
Why did Oasis step in?
Years ago, a tragic car accident took the life of the father of two boys during his wife’s third pregnancy. In Kenyan culture, the brother-in-law marries the widow upon his brother’s death. However, both of this man’s brothers refused so they wouldn’t have to share their inheritance. His wife was left brokenhearted and penniless.
This was only the beginning of the tragedy that struck this family.
During the delivery of Eunice’s third child, complications arose. It was abundantly clear she needed an emergency C section, but the doctors wouldn’t perform it without payment. Eunice was left with no option but to deliver without it, which left her unable to walk.
Yet, her passion and drive to care for her family remained strong. Daily, she used crutches to drag her feet over a mile to a wooden fruit stand to try to support her family.
Some members of the community found out about her situation and had a gathering to support her. But, on her way home late that evening, she was brutally attacked, leaving her HIV+ and pregnant.
This resilient woman has a fighter’s heart and we knew we had to answer her plea for help.
We need your help to come alongside this family to provide holistic care for the children and necessary medical care for Eunice.
