Sometimes exciting, sometimes hard, often necessary, BUT always guaranteed.
Seasons.
It’s somewhat comforting to know that change is inevitable, so we hold loosely to our present and try to stay focused on WHO and WHAT is in front of us.
While the time has come for Oasis to step into a new season, we first we want to honor our last one.
Oasis for Orphans has had an incredible last five years with Bob and Deb Ruzga on the field. Bob and Deb began traveling to Kenya on short-term trips in 2009 and quickly fell in love with the people of Kenya. Their hearts, because of this affection, were also broken for the many children living in poverty, with dim futures and little hope. In 2013, they felt God calling them to go to Kenya and help Oasis build The Shelter. In obedience to that calling, they sold their house and all their possessions and headed to Kenya.
When Bob and Deb arrived at The Shelter, or rather, a plot of land with no buildings or children, they thought they were in for a two-year commitment. Over the next 5 years, they would oversee the construction of the site (now home to 80+ children) and become site directors, who would lead a team of staff to LOVE on, FIGHT for, and LIFT up child after child in the community.
Today, there are mama’s, cooks, guards, and children who became family to Bob and Deb, who all impact each other for the better. There are children who know they are loved, have a safe place to call home, and know there are dreams for them to reach for now.
As this season ends and a new one begins, we say THANK YOU, Bob and Deb!
Thank you for quitting your jobs to follow a call to love.
Thank you for pouring out your sweat and tears on staff and children.
Thank you for pressing on through the lows to get us to the highs.
Thank you for believing in the children of Oasis.
We bless your hearts as you take Kenya with you.
We declare open doors and clarity in your next steps.
We look forward to how you will be involved with Oasis on this side of the ocean.
